The Old Vic Residents Enjoy a Burns Supper
Some hae meat an canna eat,
And some wad eat that want it;
But we hae meat, and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.
Rabbie Burns
The residents of The Old Vicarage,
gold standard nursing home in Northamptonshire, enjoyed a taste of Scotland recently as they celebrated Burns Night with a traditional Burns supper. Observed each year in January, Burns Night is a celebration of the life and work of acclaimed Scottish poet Robert Burns and is typically commemorated with a meal of Scotland’s most famous dish - haggis!
Complemented by neeps (turnip) and tatties (mashed potato), haggis is the main feature of any Burns supper and it is certainly a dish that splits opinion! However, our excellent chef Janice prepared the haggis and its accompaniments to perfection and everybody enjoyed their fantastic Scottish feast. The main course was followed up by a truly delicious cranachan trifle. Another traditional Scottish delicacy, this dessert features raspberries, oats, honey and a hint of whisky - which as you can imagine went down an absolute treat! The Old Vic’s residents are already looking forward to next year’s Burns Night!
